Working at Mayda Cisneros is ‘A Piece of Cake’
Here at Mayda Cisneros, we take birthdays very seriously. No matter how busy we are making gowns, we make it a point to set aside at the very least a half hour to wish our employee a very happy birthday and celebrate in the back of the store. I wish I could say this was as simple as baking a cake and gathering around for a “Happy Birthday,” but it has become rather difficult getting the birthday girl to comply. For this reason, it has become a trend here to prank our co-workers on their special day.
We’ve decided to share our stories with you, and would welcome any suggestions on future pranks.
The Ultimate Prank: Cuca, a local celebrity here for over 18 years, goes above and beyond to hide her birthday. For years, we have tried to celebrate but she either leaves early or runs out of the store. This year, we tricked her into making tea for a sick employee and ambushed her in the kitchen. With nowhere to run, she was forced to accept our efforts and blow out her candles.
Gullible Gaby: Gaby, our pr/marketing coordinator and mother to our store mascot (a white poodle named Prince), thought she could escape celebrating her birthday in the store as well. Mayda called her into the store because she “desperately needed” to finalize a few up-coming projects before the weekend. As Gaby entered the store, Mayda, Natalia, and Cuca began saying how there was a dog in the back, and lured her into the back for a surprise “happy birthday.”

Celebrate Mexico!
On September 15th, Mayda Cisneros teamed up with Tiffany & Co to “Celebrate Mexico” at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami. Attendees at this exclusive event were given a preview of Mayda’s Fall2011 collection, along with the latest pieces from Tiffany & Co.

African Women’s Conference
On Friday, September 30th, Mayda Cisneros hosted the African Women’s Conference in her store. This was an informative event that exposed the many facets of the fashion industry to aspiring designers from various countries in Africa. We’d like to give a special thank you to all those who participated and look forward to hearing about all their upcoming successes.
